Writing

I do a lot of writing about rewilding, ecological restoration and the recovery of the Caledonian Forest, as well as on other subjects. The links below lead to some pages with examples of my writing, and more can also be seen by visiting the blog pages here on my website.

  • A Future for Forests

The following links lead to articles I’ve written that feature on other websites:

  • Species profiles for the Caledonian Forest (I wrote 52 profiles about different species in the Caledonian Forest for Trees for Life, which can be accessed here.)

I am happy to be commissioned to write for magazines, journals and books etc, and have recently contributed a chapter for a book entitled Sustainability and the Rights of Nature in Practice that was published in the USA in 2020.

If you would like me to write something for you, please contact me.

Storm Boelo hit the Moray coast of Scotland last week-end with winds of up to 65 mph. As a result, these sandy earthtongue fungi (Sabuloglossum arenarium) on the Findhorn Hinterland became covered in sand like this, until the next rain washed them clean again.

A few days ago I found these tiny fungi amongst some juniper haircap moss (Polytrichum juniperinum) on the Findhorn Hinterland. They are the orange mosscap fungus (Rickenella fibula), & it's a parasite of the haircap mosses in the genus Polytrichum, such as the one shown here.

The Parrot Toadstool is a small mushroom with a convex to umbonate cap 1–3 centimetres (⅓–1 in) in diameter, which is green when young and later yellowish or even pinkish ting.
